Lib Dems Launch campaign to STOP Labour's Chadderton Prison Plan - ALCOCK11.28.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Sat 1st Aug 2009 The Liberal Democrats have launched a campaign to STOP Labour's plans to have a 1,500 place prison in Chadderton. Labour's potential site is on land between Foxdenton Lane and Ferney Field near to Radclyffe School and adjacent parkland. Cllr Mark Alcock Parliamentary Spokesperson for Oldham West and Royton, including Chadderton, said, "This is a bad deal for Chadderton. No town wants a large prison with 1,500 of the most serious offenders in it. There are no positives for our town in this plan and the Lib Dem led Council and I will fight the new prison every step of the way." "This site in Chadderton is in open countryside. The only thing this new prison would produce is the next wave of re-offenders. "This is another example of Labour's failed policies to deal with crime Labour want to follow the lead of the US and build more prisons with more and more prisoners in them," said Mark Alcock "Labour's policies have failed. They are desperately looking for more sites to house an out of control prisoner population yet local people do not feel safer than when Labour took over. The Liberal Democrats want to prevent crime by putting more police officers on the street." Please help us to STOP Labour putting a prison in Chadderton by signing our petition below.
