Iraq Inquiry should be in public say Mark Alcock

11.28.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 15th Jun 2009

Prospective Lib Dem MP Mark Alcock has slammed the government's decision to hold the long awaited Inquiry into the Iraq war in private.

Gordon Brown made the announcement this afternoon.

Mark Alcock said, "We need to all be able to hear the evidence. Many of us opposed the Iraq war and still believe it was wrong. Many of us are equally concerned about what has happened in Iraq since. How can this government get away with keeping it all behind closed doors?"
