Lib Dems celebrating the Sunday opening of Oldham Gallery

Oldham Liberal Democrats have been celebrating the extension of Gallery Oldham's opening hours to include Sundays from 10am to 4pm.

The Liberal Democrats have been keen to improve the provision of services to fit with people's lifestyles, so in addition to the existing opening hours, the Gallery, Library and Tourist Information Centre will now be open every Sunday.

Councillor John McCann, Cabinet Member for Community Services and Housing said: "The services and activities that are offered by the Gallery, Library and Tourist Information Centre will now be available for all every day of the week. This is very good news as it will enable many more people to take advantage of the wide range of services, opportunities and events that are on offer."

Councillor Roger Hindle said: "Sunday opening also adds to the provision of family-friendly services in Oldham town centre, which we are committed to improving for the use of all residents."

Councillor Mohib Uddin added: "This is a huge improvement on the previous situation where only a bare-bones library service was available on Sundays for just four hours."

Shadow Liberal Democrat MP for Oldham West & Royton including Chadderton, Mark Alcock said, "The Gallery being open on Sundays is great news for many Oldham Borough residents. Many people have said how they are looking forward to visiting the Gallery on Sundays when they actually have time to spare".

A series of free family activities on Sundays starts with a Passport to Summer finale event on Sunday 4 October between 1-3pm. The event celebrates Oldham's biggest ever programme of summer events, which was the largest in North West of England. Activities will include live music, photography, freestyle football and a rock climbing wall.

Further Sunday events will include arts and craft sessions, storytimes, a children's film club and a series of classical music concerts.
