Vote for change in Oldham West & Royton including Chadderton on May 6th

Gordon Brown has finally called the General Election for May 6th. This election is a chance for real change in Oldham West & Royton including Chadderton.

Over the next month, Mark will be working hard to show how Lib Dem proposals will make Oldham West & Royton, and Britain, fairer. That means more funding for schools and scrapping tuition fees to give every child a fair start in life. It means raising the income tax threshold which would take the lowest earners out of tax and save most people £700. And it means cleaning up politics in Westminster.

The choice in Oldham West & Royton is between Mark Alcock and Labour. The Conservative candidate has only just appeared. In fact, the Lib Dems are the main challengers to Labour here, the Conservatives came third in the new constituency of Oldham West & Royton in the 2008 local elections.

Mark says, "The message time and again on the doorstep is that people feel let down by the Labour MP and the Labour party and now it's time for change.

"I'm not a career politician - I'm standing because I believe that Labour and the Labour MP have let us down. As a parent of three, living in Oldham, I want to fight to get Oldham West & Royton the attention it deserves."

Recently lots of local people have asked to join the Lib Dem team of volunteers. If you can help in any way please get in touch through the website, send an email:

Perhaps you could deliver leaflets around your street, help speak to other voters, or display a poster in your front window or garden?

Mark went on to say, "Between now and polling day, I'll be out and about in our area, meeting local people and listening to their concerns - the same thing I've been doing all year round. Do say hello when you see me on the campaign trail!"
